Station G2
UnitEng Station G2
Overview
The UnitEng Station G2 (by B&Q Consulting, Shenzhen, China) is a professional-grade fixed-station LoRa device built for backbone mesh networks. It features a dedicated high-power PA, an ultra-low noise figure LNA, and a precision TCXO — a combination that makes it one of the highest-performing LoRa nodes available, and the hardware behind several regional “Super Repeaters” in the PNW, including Cougar Mountain.

✓ Pros
- ✔ 35 dBm P1dB high-power PA (up to 36.5 dBm / 4.46W for US915)
- ✔ Ultra-low noise figure LNA: ~4 dB receive sensitivity improvement over standard devices
- ✔ 32MHz TCXO (±1.5 ppm) — precision frequency reference for extreme spread factors
- ✔ ESP32-S3: 16MB flash, 8MB PSRAM, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi
- ✔ Wide power input: 15V USB-C PD or 9–19V external supply
- ✔ 1.3" OLED screen; GROVE/QWIIC expansion ports; optional GPS socket
✗ Cons
- ✕ Currently unavailable — not listed in UnitEng shop as of March 2026
- ✕ Full PA requires 15V USB-C PD or 9–19V supply (standard 5V USB disables the PA)
- ✕ ESP32-S3 draws more current in RX mode than nRF52840 boards
RF Performance
The Station G2 ships two key RF enhancements over standard SX1262 devices:
- Ultra-Low Noise Figure LNA (18.5 dB gain, 1.8 dB NF) — improves receive sensitivity by ~4 dB vs. a bare SX1262. This extends effective range and allows Station G2 to receive weaker signals from low-power nodes, helping more devices relay messages across the network.
- Fast-Transient DC-DC for LoRa PA — minimizes voltage deviation during transmit bursts, improving SNR for short data packets (ACKs, traceroutes, range tests) and reducing retransmission probability.
- Precision TCXO (±1.5 ppm) — enables reliable operation at the most demanding LoRa settings (SF12, BW 62.5 kHz / Very Long Range).
Power Requirements
The full PA only activates when the device is powered by 15V USB-C PD or a 9–19V external supply. A standard 5V USB source powers the ESP32 and allows firmware flashing, but the PA will be inactive — output will be limited to the SX1262’s native level (≤22 dBm).
For solar deployments: A 15V USB-C PD power bank (e.g., VEEKTOMX Mini 10000mAh) or a 12V solar system via the external supply connector are the recommended approaches.
Availability
Note: As of March 2026, the Station G2 is not currently listed in the UnitEng shop. Check shop.uniteng.com and Tindie for current status.
Setup Notes
- Flash with MeshCore Flasher — may require manual bootloader entry: hold BOOT button, press RESET, wait 5 seconds, then release BOOT
- Connect from within the MeshCore app over BLE for initial configuration; use WiFi OTA for subsequent firmware updates
- Use a sleeve-dipole antenna (~3 dBi) as baseline before upgrading to high-gain directional antennas
- Optional GPS via GROVE GPS socket (NMEA / TTL serial)
- Optional I2C sensors (temperature, pressure, etc.) via GROVE and SparkFun QWIIC connectors
Use in Vashon Mesh
The Station G2 is used at elevated regional sites such as Cougar Mountain where its combination of high PA output and improved receive sensitivity creates backbone “Super Repeater” nodes that extend coverage across the Puget Sound region.
